Governance of transformativeinnovation in Central Europeancities: the AV case

GINEVRA ist das Akronym für ein EU-Interreg Central Europe Projekt, an dem die Gemeinde Bad Schönborn als einzige deutsche Kommune beteiligt ist. Dieses sieben Länder und elf Partner umfassende Projekt hat eine Laufzeit von drei Jahren (März 2023 bis Februar 2026) und ein Gesamtvolumen von 2.536.965,40 Euro wovon 2.029.572,32 Euro über den European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) gefördert werden.

Ziel des Projektes ist es, die verantwortliche Einführung von innovativer Technologie zu erforschen und international anwendbare Richtlinien und Hilfsmittel zu entwickeln. Die passiert anhand des Beispiels von autonom fahrenden Fahrzeugen. Dabei arbeiten kleine und mittelgroße Kommunen in sieben Ländern Mitteleuropas (Deutschland, Italien, Kroation, Österreich, Polen, Slowenien, Ungarn) gemeinsam mit Forschungseinrichtungen und Instituten, um die soziorelevanten Aspekte der Einführung von zukunftsfähiger Technologie zu erörtern.

Was es mit dem autonomen Fahren auf sich hat sehen Sie hier - vorerst leider nur in englisher Sprache.

Bad Schönborn wird Ort einer empirischen Studie zur Akzeptanz autonom fahrender Fahrzeuge in der Gesellschaft sein, die das KIT wissenschaftlich begleitet und durchführt. Darüber hinaus besteht die Möglichkeit Anfang 2026 ein autonom fahrendes Fahrzeug probeweise im Straßenverkehr in Bad Schönborn zu testen.

PROJECT AT A GLANCE:

Digital technology is transforming urban development, with potential to address today's social and environmental challenges and territorial disparities. In particular, Autonomous Vehicles (AV) are one innovation that will dramatically change our way of life.
For optimal deployment, local authorities must anticipate and reflect on how transformative innovations can direct safe, sustainable, citizen friendly futures for cities, not only for big-sized ones but small and medium cities as well, since they face these same challenges.
Indeed, thanks to this project, small/medium cities’ capacities in responsible and multi-level governance of transformative innovations will be strengthened.

OBJECTIVES

GINEVRA aims at testing a challenging case of responsible, multi-level governance to deploy a transformative innovation: the Autonomous Vehicles (AV) case. To achieve this goal, 6 pilot cities will be involved and through transnational cooperation and a multi-level approach, governance guidelines and citizen/stakeholder engagement tools will be developed in order to consolidate uptake of solutions in policies. As a result, small/medium cities will acquire knowledge to better govern transformative innovations: reaping benefits, avoiding pitfalls and ensuring wide, cross-sector engagement.
